Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.

Hebrews 12:1

 “Let us run the race.”

What encouraging words from the author of Hebrews, and what a beautiful picture that motivates and inspires us as we pursue a life dedicated to kingdom work. Each one of us has an individual path to run, and a purpose to accomplish while we are on earth, but we are all running toward the same finish line.

Even when we have trained well, are prepared mentally, physically and spiritually, and have our eyes firmly fixed on the goal, this race can be daunting. We will grow tired. We will get discouraged. We may feel at times as though we are “off course,” stumbling through thorny obstacles and called upon to blaze a trail where no one has gone before. The writer of Hebrews knew this and gives us hope as we follow his instructions to keep our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.

It is only in pursuing Christ Himself that we find the reward, and we are able to run the race with joy.

In this 30-day devotional, you will glean wisdom and insight from the apostle Paul’s letter to the church at Philippi. Called the greatest missionary of all time, he made an unforgettable and enduring impact on the world and the culture that surrounded him. If we could sit down and chat with him, what would he tell us? What can we learn from a man who ran his race so well?

All of us desire to make our lives count for something greater than ourselves. The reality is, there is no greater call than the cause of Christ and the gospel of His kingdom. As Paul will teach us, let’s pursue Him with passion, endurance and joy.

Let’s run the race, for Jesus is worthy.
